Patriots, Wolfpack split rifle match

FAIRBANKS — The North Pole Patriots and West Valley Wolfpack split their season-opening high school rifle match last week.

Shooting at the University of Alaska Fairbanks rifle range Saturday, North Pole won the smallbore portion of the meet with 1,972 points compared to 1,937 for the Wolfpack

Earlier in the week, West Valley won the air rifle portion of the match 2,097-2,017.

Ryan Andrews led North Pole in Saturday’s action with a 508, followed by Coby Smith with a 504, Ian Hancock with a 500 and Brenna Welch with a 460.

Anna Quist was West Valley’s top shooter with a 494. Dawson Lewandoski posted a 493, while Allison Ward tallied 489 and Tyler Brose notched a 461.

Quist was West Valley’s leader in air rifle with a 556. Brose registered a 533, Nicole Plummer notched a 515 and Lewandoski posted a 493.

Smith’s 519 led North Pole. Andrews came in with a 509, Welch registered a 498 and Hancock put up a 491.

Results of Saturday’s match between Lathrop and Delta Junction were not available Sunday evening.

This week’s rifle action features North Pole hosting Lathrop at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Alaska Department of Fish and Game Hunter Education Range and Hutchison travels to Delta Junction for a 9 a.m. match on Saturday.

West Valley’s next match is Oct. 15 against Lathrop.
