Malenfent tops Interior rifle team

FAIRBANKS — MaLinda Malenfant finished just outside the top-100 to lead a group of five Interior shooters at the 2015 National Junior Olympic Rifle Championships air rifle event on Monday in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Malenfant, of Fairbanks, was joined by Fairbanks’ Amy Gentry, Chloe Allan and Katlyn Lammers and Delta Junction’s Zoey Hensley at the air rifle competition at the Olympic Training Center.

Malenfant finished 105th overall after firing a 400.4 on Monday to finish with a two-day score of 791.2. She began the competition with a 390.8 on Sunday, putting her in 139th after the first day.

The girls three-position competition gets underway today. The boys air rifle and three-position competitions are scheduled to run April 30-May 6.

Gentry moved up 10 spots to finish 135th in the 184-person competition with a final score of 783.3 after firing a 394.4 on Monday. She shot a 388.9 on Monday.

Hensley finished with a tow-day score of 776.6 after firing a 389.5 on Monday and a 387.1 on Sunday. Allan fired a 387.5 on Monday to finish with a 768.8 total score after shooting a 381.3 on Sunday.

Lammers finished with a two-day scored of 738.4 She fired a 369.7 on Monday after shooting a 368.7 on Sunday.

Anchorage’s Cathryn Papasodora led all Alaskan shooters with a 26th place showing. She finished with total scored of 812.2 after shooting 403.5 on Sunday and 408.7 on Monday.

The top two finishers in the air rifle and three-position competitions receive invitations to join the USA Shooting National Development Team.
