2020 Alaska Junior Three-Position Air Rifle Postal Competition

INVITATION. All junior shooting sports clubs in Alaska, including 4-H, American Legion, U.S. Jaycees, Scholastic teams, JROTC clubs and JROTC units are invited to participate in this state postal sponsored by the Borealis Bullseyes and sanctioned by the Civilian Marksmanship Program. This official match program provides information to guide your team’s participation. The results of this postal will be posted online at the Orion Results Center and the Civilian Marksmanship Program Club & Competition Tracker and rank teams and individuals state-wide.

POSTAL COMPETITION SUMMARY. The Alaska Junior Three-Position Air Rifle Postal is a 10-meter three-position (3x20) air rifle competition. All teams and individuals must register by mail or email. Once registered, Borealis Bullseyes will mail official targets to each team/individual. After firing, all targets, shot or not, must be returned to Borealis Bullseyes for official scoring. Firing instructions will be mailed with the targets.

RULES. The 2018 – 2020 12th Edition of the National Standard Three Position Air Rifle Rules governs. Rule books may be downloaded from the CMP website http://thecmp.org/air/national-standard-three-position-air-rifle-rules/

ELIGIBILITY. Teams may enter an unlimited number of shooters into the postal competition. All team participants must be from the same school or club. Participants must be School Age (have not graduated from high school). Teams may have a sporter team, or a precision team, or may enter shooters in both classes as long as no shooter fires in both classes. 4-H membership is not required.

TO ENTER / ORDER TARGETS. Coaches will order targets from Borealis Bullseyes by completing and submitting a registration form available online at www.alaska4h.org or www.borealisbullseyes.org/competitions. Submit completed applications by email to info@borealisbullseyes.org or by mail to Borealis Bullseyes Competitions, 4010 Winchester Loop, Anchorage, AK 99507. Of primary importance is the CMP Competitor Number for each shooter. Instructions for creating a CMP Competitor Number are found at www.thecmp.org/wp-content/uploads/CreateACMPNumber.pdf . After receiving each team entry the requested target sets will be sent with Firing Instructions and a Team Firing Report. When registering your team(s) please try to register all shooters at one time so that all targets are mailed out together. Return all targets together to keep shipping costs to a minimum.

PAYMENT. The cost for each firing member is $10.00. This is to be submitted by check or credit card with the registration form(s) and is non-refundable. The fee covers the costs of match sanction, awards, supplies and shipping. 4-H membership is not included.

COURSE OF FIRE / FIRING PROCEDURES. Each junior in the postal competition will fire a three-position 3x20 course of fire on official postal targets. Six special 10-bull competition targets designed for scoring with electronic Orion Visual Image Scoring software will be provided for each firing member. These targets will have a bar-code sticker with the shooter’s name, CMP Number, Position and Sequence Number affixed to the upper right-hand corner. Do not make any marks on the face of the target. DO NOT PLUG TARGETS! Be sure each shooter fires on the targets with that shooter’s name on them and in the sequence indicated. No other targets will be accepted.

The course of fire includes unlimited sighters in 10 minutes and 20 shots for record prone in 20 minutes, 5 minute changeover, unlimited sighters in 5 or 10 minutes and 20 shots for record standing in 25 minutes, 5 minute changeover and unlimited sighters in 5 or 10 minutes and 20 shots for record kneeling in 20 minutes. An instructor must serve as the range officer, supervise firing, and sign the Firing Report.

TEAM SCORES. The team score will be comprised of the top four scores fired in each class. Subsequent teams from the same club/school will be created using the next best four from that organization. Any shooter not part of a four-person team will be listed as individuals only. A team must be comprised of at least four shooters.

SCORING AND RESULTS. The Borealis Bullseyes will score all targets and post all scores in ranked results lists on the Orion Results website www.orionresults.com and the CMP CMP Match Results website thecmp.org/air

Targets will be scored with the Orion Visual Image Scoring System. Protests of shots will be handled in accordance with the 2018-2020 National Standard Three-Position Air Rifle Rules. Coaches should call any protests to 907-349-9263, or e-mail info@borealisbullseyes.org as soon as possible after scores are posted and before scores become final on 30 April 2020.

AWARDS. All finishers will receive certificates of participation. Medals will be awarded to the top three teams and top three individuals in sporter and precision classes. Junior Achievement Award Pins will be awarded to shooters who equal or exceed the following scores for a 3x20 air rifle competition (appendix II, 8.2).

Sporter Class: Gold 510+, Silver 480 – 509, Bronze 440 – 439

Precision Class: Gold 580+, Silver 560 – 579, Bronze 540 – 559
