Malemutes shooters sweep Wolfpack

FAIRBANKS — The Lathrop Malemutes registered a sweep of their high school rifle match with the West Valley Wolfpack Saturday at the Alaska Department of Fish and Game Range.

The Malemutes won the air rifle match 2,218-2,128 and the smallbore match 2,076-1,965.

Personal best scores by Connor Gilman 567 out of 600 and Liam Eberhart 548 helped propel the Malemutes to victory in the air rifle match. Kasey Barnes put a match-high 568 and JT Schnering rounded out the team with a 535.

West Valley’s Nicole Plummer had a personal best 568 to equal Barnes’ performance and set the pace for the Wolfpack. Phillips Wilson registered a 537 for West Valley, followed by a personal best 513 from Garrett Sheets and a 510 by Matt East.

Lathrop won the junior varsity match 2,010-1,864. Joshua Smith had a personal best 530 for Lathrop and Abel Keith had a personal best 503 for West Valley. Lathrop alternate Erik Kirschner registered a personal best 555 and West Valley’s Parker Pile had a personal best 483.

In the smallbore match, Lathrop was led by personal best scores from Gilman (519) and Smith (512). Schnering led the Malemutes with a 523 and Barnes notched 512.

Plummer led the Wolfpack with a 511, followed by Connor Soden with a 501, Wilson with a 493 and Casey MacCheyne with a 460.

Lathrop won the JV match 1,870-1,802. Lathrop got personal best efforts from Eberhart (499) and Sam Mueller (488), while West Valley had personal best scores by Keith (471), Sheets (460) and Jesse Barrett (428).

West Valley’s alternates had personal best scores with East notching a 529 and Elijah McMorrow with a 437. Christian Brower had a personal best with a 363.

Results of the Hutchison/Delta Junction match will be published when available.

The next match on the high school schedule is between West Valley and North Pole at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the ADF&G Range.
