Hutchison rifle squad defeats Delta Junction

FAIRBANKS — The Hutchison Hawks swept a pair of high school rifle matches the past two weeks — first in Delta Junction, then in Fairbanks on Saturday.

In both events, the teams shot their air rifle matches during the week and the shot face-to-face smallbore matches on a Saturday.

The most recent match wrapped up Saturday with Hutchison winning the smallbore matched 2,143-1,929. The Hawks captured the air rifle match by a 2,182-2,000 margin.

Personal bests by Roscoe Beadles (558) and Nathanael Manning (550) helped the Hawks to victory in the smallbore match. Gabe Stutz registered a 523 and Blaze Brooks came in at 512.

Alex Mathews led Delta Junction with a personal best 522. Rachael Hannan posted a 483, Jakob Shautt put up a 470 and Joe Cepeda had a 454.

Other personal bests were posted by Hutchison’s Emma Daniels with a 526, Amy Gentry with a 480 and Kimballan Carver with a 393.

In air rifle, all five Hutchison shooters posted scored of 529 or better. Stutz led the Hawks with a 559, followed by Brooks with a 553, Manning with a 541 and Gentry with a 529.

Shautt led the Huskies with a 544, followed by Hannan with a 536, Patrick Newman with a personal best 521 and Mathews with a 499.

Other personal bests were put up by Hutchison’s Daniels (514), Noah Hughes (455), Carver (454) and Andrew Schok (429). Delta’s Angus Pospisil had personal best 458, as well.

In the match that concluded on Nov. 10, Delta won the air rifle competition 2,199-2,117 and the smallbore match 2,103-1,962.

Manning had a personal best 559 to lead Hutchison in air rifle, while Stutz and Beadles posted scores of 552 and Brooks had a 536.

Shautt had a personal best 552 to lead the Huskies, with Dillon Tatro notching a 540, Alex Mathews with a personal best 526 and Newman with a personal best 499.

Other personal bests were put up by Hutchison’s Genty (535) and Garret Synder with a 499.

In smallbore, the Hawks were led by Beadles with a 432, followed by Manning with a 530, Brooks with a 521 and Max Delzer with a 520.

Mathews led Delta Junction with a 511, Tatro notched a 482, Shautt had a personal best 492 and Cepeda had a personal best 477.
