North Pole shooters win at Delta Junction

FAIRBANKS — The North Pole Patriots were right on target Saturday, defeating the Delta Junction Huskies in both events of Saturday’s rifle match in Delta Junction.

North Pole won the air rifle competition 1,998-1,963 and captured the smallbore event 1,8030-1,707.

North Pole’s Erika Blanchard had the highest one-target score of the day with a 97 shot in the prone position of the smallbore event.

Brenna Welch led North Pole in air rifle with a 525, followed by Blanchard with a 514, Jana Armstrong with a 495, Caleb Hull with a 464 and alternated Mitch Durrant with a 452. Armstrong, Hull and Durrant all had personal bests.

Four of Delta’s five air rifle shooters had personal bests, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Patriots.

Dillon John had a personal best and match high scored with a 541 to lead the way for the Huskies. Other Delta scores were a 490 from Alex Matthews and personal bests by Patrick Newman (478), Angie Pospisil (454) and alternate Kael Knight (442).

Welch was the top shooter in for the Patriots in smallbore, posting a 495. Blanchard registered a 482, followed by Armstrong with a 453, Durrant with a 373 and Hull with a 356.

Matthews was Delta’s top shooter with a 474, followed closely by Pospisil with a personal best 410, Kinght with a personal best 351 and alternate Newman with a personal best 403.
