Ryan Anderson shoots way to bronze medal at Pan American Games in Toronto

FAIRBANKS—Ryan Anderson became the third former Alaska Nanooks shooter to win a medal at the Pan American Games when he won bronze in the 50-meter, three position match on Sunday in Toronto.

Anderson joins Matt Rawlings (gold in 2011) and Melissa Mulloy (silver in 2003) as former Nanooks who have won medals at the Pan Am Games.

Anderson, from Great Falls, Virginia, began the match in seventh place after shooting a 143.7 in the kneeling position. He responded by shooting a match-high 154.2 in the prone position to move up to sixth place.

In the standing position, Anderson fired a 99.6. After four rounds of elimination in the finals, Anderson finished with a total score of 427.3.

Cuba’s Reynier Estopinan won the gold medal after shooting a Pan Am Games finals record of 450.4. Anderson’s Team USA teammate George Norton took home the silver medal after firing a final score of 447.9.

Anderson advanced to the finals after shooting the second-highest qualification score at 1,167 earlier on Thursday. Mexico’s Jose Sanchez had the highest qualifying score at 1,170.
