Hutchison shooter Amy Gentry 6th in American Legion Junior Three-Position Rifle National Championships

FAIRBANKS—Amy Gentry entered the finals of the American Legion Junior Three-Position Rifle National Championships on Saturday in sixth place.

The Hutchison High School shooter secured her sixth place finish in the precision division after shooting 99.2 in the final.

Gentry was one of 15 shooters who were shooting at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Gentry, who won the Mid Alaska Conference individual smallbore title in December, earned a spot in the finals after shooting a combined 2,355 in the first four three-position matches at the competition, which began on Tuesday.

Gentry finished fifth in the first match after firing a 588. She followed that up with a 590 in the second match, good for a second place finish.

In the third match, Gentry shot a 588 to finish eighth. She finished the finals qualifying matches with a fourth place finish after firing a 589.

She added a fourth place showing in the standing match after shooting a 388. Gentry also finished sixth in the kneeling competition at 393 and 12th in the prone competition at 397.

Rhian Travis, from Parker County 4-H Shooting Sports in Texas, won the overall three-position title with an overall score of 2,487.9. Mitchell Van Patten, from the Meridian Optimist Junior Rifle Club in Idaho, finished second after shooting a 2,476.2.

Emily Stith, out of the Capital City Junior Rifle Club in Washington, D.C., took third at 2,468.3
