North Pole Rifle Team

Due to budget cuts North Pole High School no longer have a Rifle Team maybe in the incoming semesters will be able to have another rifle team.

The humble Beginnings of the North Pole High Rifle Team started in the Fall of 2001 as a Club with 15 students by the fall of 2002 Officially we had a Team and added to the roster of schools competing. Our smallbore practices are done in the Fairbanks area at the Fairbanks Hunter Education Indoor Shooting Range 17 miles away. Our air practices are done in the second floor hallway at the High School.

The High schools in Region 6, North Pole, Lathrop, West Valley, Hutchinson, Delta, Tok, Valdez.

The course of fire we do sixty shots of smallbore (20 shots prone, 20 shots standing, 20 shots kneeling) and sixty shots of standing air rifle.

Current USA Shooting Rules govern all our Shooting events during the rifle season.

Over the years North Pole High Rifle Team was able to take the Eddie Eagle GunSafe Program to elementary schools close to the City of North Pole, the program teaches children in pre-k to third grade, the program teaches important steps to take if they find a gun and for 4th to 6th grade safety tips on the use of firearms.

Since Ms. Barranco Retirement The Eddie Eagle GunSafe Program is run by the Fairbanks Police Department

North Pole High Rifle Team with the help of Mr. Joe Nava and Ms. Zulma Barranco was able to take the program to Salcha Elementary, North Pole Elementary, Badger Elementary, Ticasuk Brown Elementary and Two Rivers Elementary, all this Schools are in the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District

Fairbanks Hunter Education Indoor Range

North Pole High School "Range" the before and after pictures.. We used 5 gal buckets to adjust the height of the traps before we had the adjustable stands and pellet traps... if you notice on the background of the picture we shoot to a glass wall to protect the glass we use a kevlar curtain.Practices are done in the hallway on the second floor, connecting hallways and stairways are block during practice times. The "after pictures are the one with the grey carpet and lighter color walls.

Delta High School practice and compete at Delta Sportsmen's Range. The indoor range have 5 lanes and a great club house! Delta Sportmen's Range is 90 miles south of North Pole.This past summer made improvements in the indoor range and the outdoor range .

Tanana Valley Sportsmen's Association the oldest Shooting Club in the Interior. This pictures are from the old indoor range, the club house and range burned down a few years ago...

The Club House and indoor range been rebuild and have a great meeting and shooting range. Lathrop, West Valley & Hutchinson High Schools have air and smallbore practice on this location.

The University of Alaska Fairbanks has sponsored a rifle team since 1937. With the completion of the Patty Athletic Center in 1962, UAF began a tradition of rifle excellence that continues today. Home of the Alaska Nanooks. This pictures are from the E.F. Horton Range. During our rifle season we have matches at this range and our regionals are done at this facility using the electronics targets

21 Mile Gun Club and North Pole Rifle Team sponsor Ben Eielson High / Middle School Rifle Club ,Mr. Larry Terch Science Teacher at BEH and NRA Firearms Instructor been teaching firearm safety and NRA Hunter's Ed Classes till his Retirement this May of 2012.

The Watershed School in Fairbanks been using North Pole High air rifles for training for Biathlon, they practice the air rifles at school and smallbore at Fairbanks Hunter Education Shooting Range, Plus the fun part ! skiing and shooting outside!!!
