Study Guide - Handout

NOT all fat is bad...

Remember: Don't just read FAT and think the worst. Your body NEEDS fat. Do your own research and make smart choices.

KEY POINTS:

  1. Fats play a crucial role in our health. Joint structure and cell membranes are dependent on an adequate intake of healthy fats.

  2. Muscle growth is dependent on a fat-based steroid hormone, so if adequate intake of fat is not met you will not build as much muscle as possible.

  3. Foods containing omega 3 and 6 fatty acids are essential - the body cannot make them from other nutrients.

Plant based diet

KEY POINTS:

  1. Eating a vegetarian, vegan, or plant-based diet does not mean you cannot be a strong, fit athlete.

  2. Cam Newton and Alex Morgan both lead a plant based lifestyle.

  3. If you eat lots of nutritious whole foods, there aren’t that many adjustments you need to make to go plant-based.

  4. A lot of people go one day a week without meat. Some go one day a week with meat. Your diet is 100% up to you.

  5. YOU HAVE TO BE A BIT CREATIVE TO GET EVERYTHING YOUR BODY NEEDS - BE SMART AND DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE JUMPING INTO A LIFESTYLE CHANGE.
