Arnold Carson

A 1970 graduate of the University of Washington in Aeronautics and Astronautics, Arnold B. Carson served in the US Air Force 1970-1972 as a Minuteman Missile Targeting Officer before pursuing graduate Studies in Civil Engineering at the University of Washington.

Arne began his career as an engineer with KPFF Consulting Engineers 1973-78, continuing as Principal with Ballinger, Smith and Carson 1978-82, and since 1982 as Principal with KPFF Consulting Engineers. He retired from KPFF in 2014.

Favorite projects in Seattle include the 4th and Battery Office Building, the 5th & Yesler Office Building, 1201 Third Avenue Office Building, Second and Seneca Office Building, Fred Hutchinson Campus, Swedish Medical Office Buiding, W Hotel, Sea-Tac South Terminal Expansion, Marriott Waterfront Hotel, World Trade Center, 3131 Elliott Office Building, 635 and 645 Elliott Office Buildings, Seattle City Hall, and at the University of Washington the Fisheries Building, Oceanography Building, Mary Gates Hall, and IMA Recreational Sports Fitness Facilities.

Arne joined SEAW in 1974, and participated as a member of the Lateral Forces Committee, on the planning committee for the 1983 “Practical Design of Earthquake Resistant Structures," as Co-Chair for the 1989 Northwest Structural Engineers Conference in Richland, and on the Planning Committee for the 1998 Northwest Structural Engineers Conference in Lake Chelan. He has also served on and chaired numerous SEAW Scholarship and Nominating Committees, and as a founding member of the ACE Mentor program.

In 2011 he joined with colleagues in establishing the Structural Engineers Foundation of Washington as a Founding Board Member.
