Umesh Vasishth

SEAW Southwest President 1984October 18, 1930 - December 28, 2012

Born in Srinigar, India, Umesh Vasishth came to Seattle in 1955 after completing Bachelor of Engineering studies at the University of Mysore, then earned the MS from the University of Washington.

He went to work with Washington State Department of Transportation in Olympia, as Supervising Bridge Engineer. He had the design responsibility for more than a hundred structures located throughout Washington, including several recognized by awards: Denny Creek Bridge, Cedar Street Bridge, and Mud Bay Road U-Xing. Other projects under his supervision: the Third Lake Washington Floating Bridge and its approaches, Mt. Baker Ridge Tunnel, and Columbia River Bridge at Umatilla.

Following his retirement from DOT, Umesh founded Exeltech, an engineering consulting firm based in Lacey. He also taught engineering at Saint Martin's College, and served on the Washington State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.

He and his wife Veena lived in Tumwater at a home on Ken Lake which he designed for the family in 1969.
