David Walton

Life Member 1994

Born in the Seattle area in 1931, David A. Walton grew up in Bremerton. By age 10 he had decided to become a civil engineer, in part because of the high profile of new roads and bridges associated with building of the interstate system and also the extensive dam construction that occurred in that era. He received his BSCE and then his MSCE in structures at the University of Washington.

After his schooling, David spent 13 years working in aerospace for several companies including Boeing before deciding to get back into structural engineering. He joined the City of Seattle Building Department and spent most of his 13 years with them in the Department of Construction and Land Use. With DCLU he served as the senior structural engineer for restoration of 17 buildings in Pike Place and 60 buildings in Pioneer Square. He also spent time inspecting the docks between Piers 50 and 70 on the Seattle waterfront.

Following his retirement, David applied his skills to community service maintaining and restoring the buildings and grounds for St. Elizabeth's church in Burien.

David joined SEAW in 1974. He made speeches at SEAW meetings on the restoration of Seattle's historic buildings.
