07. Deborah Bosley: Plain Language (March 14, 2013)

Deborah Bosley presents: Plain Language - What is It? How Does it Work? Why Should You Care?

On March 14, 2013, NY Metro is pleased to host a presentation by the international expert Deborah Bosley on:

Plain Language

5:30 pm - 7:00 pm - Networking/Refreshments

7:00 pm - 8:30 pm - Presentation

Plain language is not just a better way of communicating - in some cases it’s the law. Numerous regulations and federal agencies, including the Dodd-Frank Act, the Affordable Care Act and the SEC, require the use of plain language in financial and health documents and disclosures. Corporations are using plain language for annual and quarterly reports, health insurance policies, summaries of employee benefits and other customer and employee communications. Plain language affects the bottom line and increases customer loyalty and trust.

How does this new emphasis on plain language affect technical communicators? In this interactive presentation, Deborah Bosley will show you how technical communicators can use their existing skills to market themselves as plain language experts. Whether you work in a corporate setting, or own your own company, you can learn how to use plain language to advance your career and save your company time and money.
