Open Letter to Technical Communication Educators

Post date: Dec 7, 2012 1:48:15 AM

The New York Metro chapter of the Society for Technical Communication (STC) is looking to partner with leading educational institutions in the New York Metro area and beyond in an effort to engage with young professionals. We are turning to you, a leader in the field of technical communication education, to see if we can work together to further your students’ career and educational goals.

One of the initiatives we are currently developing is in the area of social media and blogging. STC NY Metro has this new, dynamic web site, as well as several online channels where we can potentially engage your students.

We are looking for students who are interested in researching and writing about various topics in Technical Communication, and for members of Facebook, Twitter, and/or LinkedIn, who are interested in engaging with us on these services as well. Topics can range from writing tools, to Content Strategy, Usability, search engine optimization, standards, eLearning, reviews, interviews, etc. We will work with you to find what’s right for your students, and we can share with them our every-expanding list of research resources which they can draw on for content.

Student involvement can be worked into the curriculum, and articles written by students can be evaluated and edited and published on our web site (with attribution, of course!). Social media posts will enhance their understanding and provide insight into the role of social media in their professional lives.

We hope you find these ideas interesting, and would like to further pursue collaboration with our chapter. Feel free to forward this email to others within your institute who may be interested.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Nitza Hauser

President
