We thank our faculty and student colleagues at the New Jersey Institute of Technology's Master of Science in Professional and Technical Communications for hosting this event.

On Sunday, March 29, 2015, meet your colleagues in New Jersey and online to learn how to move up from technical communication to consulting.

While this work is challenging, time-consuming, and risky, it is the most fun you can have in your professional life. With John and Anna, you can get started.

How to Get Started in Consulting

9:00 am - 5:00 pm - Workshop in New Jersey

9:00 am - Virtual attendees dial in

There is no Chapter networking meeting in the evening.

One of the ways we move up from technical communication is to expand into consulting. You can do many kinds of business consulting, such as white papers, disaster preparedness, business processes, and executive presentations. You can also help set up documentation departments for companies, write or ghost-write books for companies, or just set up your own technical communication services company.

This kind of work is challenging, time-consuming, and risky. It will require every shred of your professional experience to do it well. As a result, you'll never have as much professional fun in your life!

This workshop will give you the basics of how to get started: how to make some informed decisions about your preferences, how to get set up as an independent, how to build your brand (very important!), and ways to find business.
