Worthing 3 v Uckfield 1
A trip to Worthing for our fourth First Team game, which unfortunately we lost 3-2.
Chaski on Board 1 played a nice sacrifice leading to mate. It may have been a rook at one stage, but was certainly an exchange. Very smooth.
Arran on Board 2 won a pawn in a complex position, but his opponent had a pawn on the 7th rank in compensation and a draw was agreed. This was confirmed as a reasonable result by the computer.
Mark on 3. What can I say? A complicated French Defence (I was white) where my opponent sacrificed a knight, believing that he would get it back, possibly winning a pawn. This was actually a blunder as I could have held onto the extra material had I held my nerve, but I couldn't work out the complicated continuation over the board and went for a basically equal continuation, which I then lost. Not happy.
Brian was late arriving, having travelled from a coaching session in Burgess Hill. He could have done with the extra 5 minutes and some time to relax before starting to play and this cost him as he played a tough game a pawn down for a long time, eventually losing.
Stephen on Board 5 played probably the most impressive game, earning a draw against a much higher rated opponent in a blocked position. Well done.
So we lost 3-2, which is unfortunate.
