2018/19 First Team

The season has now ended and the players individual results were as follows:

chaski  8 /10, arran  3.5 / 8, mark  2 / 5, simon  2 / 3, ian p   1 / 2, artur   0.5 / 3, stephen  2 / 6, benedict  0 / 2, michael  2 / 2, brian  0.5 / 4, carel  1 / 3 and we defaulted 2 boards, so default got 0 / 2, really should have done better.  Michael played a number of games for the Second Team and won the leagues Best Match Average Tankard, an excellent achievement reflecting a spectacular year.

All in all then, we used 11 players during the season and Chaski deserves a special prize for being the only player omnipresent.

We finished disappointingly near the foot of the Second Division and our match performances were a bit patchy. Chaski and Michael, when he could play, shone, but otherwise we struggled a bit.  We were bolstered by new member Carel Bruseker and the return of Ian Phillipson and it is clear that we borrowed from the second team for nearly all matches. Stephen in particular made an excellent contribution to the team. Our final match would have been terrifically exciting if we had not benefited from a mistake by Hastings which gave us an extra half point.  Nonetheless we would not have been relegated even if this had not happened, but only by the slimmest of margins.  We live to fight another day.
