Uckfield 1 v Lewes 2

A must win match for the First Team on Wednesday 28th February, where we put out a strong team of Chaski, Mark, Arran, Simon and Michael.

Chaski looked to have an advantage to me, but his opponent played well and Chaski himself thought he might have been worse.  However, as the time started to get short Chaski held his nerve and came through in the end.

Mark on board 2 made a right hash of it and was a piece down after 8-10 moves.  No coming back from that.

Arran on 3 had a complicated position with some dark square weaknesses and those of us watching thought he was worse.  However, Arran is good in these tricky positions and saw his way through to a vital point.

Simon struggled against our old member Peter Weston (he's not that old, but you know what I mean) and lost.  This left MIchael on board 5 to decide the match.  He is in terrific form and looked in complete control..I looked over at one point and he had a knight on B8 (as black) and his queen on A8.  I'm not sure if the knight had actually ever moved off of it's starting square, but in any case Michael won convincingly, which meant that the result was 3-2 to us, a vital win.
