Idared

This good eating and keeping apple was introduced by Leif Verner in 1942 at the Idaho Experiment Station in Moscow, Idaho. It is a cross between Jonathan (1820s, Woodstock, NY) and Wagener (1791, Penn Yan, NY). It has good size and is colored a flushed bright crimson-red with indistinct striping. It has a pleasant flavor and firm, green or pink tinged flesh. It gives high flavor to apple butter.
