Golden Delicious

Discovered as a chance seedling of Grimes Golden in 1912 on the Anderson Mullins Farm, in Clay County, West Virginia, it was sold to the Stark Bros. Nursery in 1914 for $5000. They erected a steel cage around the tree to prevent the theft of wood. It is a large, conic, golden yellow fruit with mild, crisp and juicy flesh that resists browning. This all-purpose apple bruises easily and requires gentle picking.
