We have some cracking new races for 2023! On the small but dramatic hills of Allt Wen and Penmaenbach, just to the west of Conwy Mountain. As always, everybody will get to a summit, and we guarantee zero tarmac, lots of up and down, and plenty of interest. See course maps below.

Access and Parking

Note new (and better) location for 2023!

Race HQ (and the start and finish of all races) is a short (400m) walk from the road, at the top of the Sychnant pass.

Parking is in the public car parks (see map below). First come first served, if it's a nice day they could be busy! Please allow plenty of time to park and walk to the start.

Please park sensibly and efficiently - don't take up more space than needed! If you arrive first, park at one end, and then fill in close together.

Coming from the East (head to P2): Head west along A55, coming off at J17 (Conwy). Take the A547 towards Conwy, turning R onto Mt Pleasant just outside the walls, then carry on onto the Sychnant Pass road. Unless you are arriving quite early, I recommend parking at P2, rather than driving to P1, finding it's full and having to turn around on a narrow road and go back to P2. It's not much extra walking.

From the West (head to P1): Come off the A55 at the Dwygyfylchi roundabout, and turn immediately L to Dwygyfylchu and Capelulo, Head up thru Dwygyfulcu to join the Sychnant pass road. Park at P1 if there's space, if not continue to P2 and if needed P3.

You can walk on footpaths from P2 and P3 to P1, and then onto the start. it's about 1.2km from P2 or P3 to P1. Or you can walk along the road (fairly quiet, with a 40mph limit but no footway) - about 600m from P2 to P1, about double from P3.

For 2023 we have shifted location a bit, to Allt Wen, at the top of the Sychnant Pass. Better logistics, and even better race routes. Next year I should really rename it Ras Allt Wen... 

Summary of all courses and parking info

u13s/u15s (green route). u17s/19s as for the u13s course, but with extra blue bit. Note kit requirements below.

U13s/15s route will be fairly well marked, but runners should have some understanding of the course and will need to keep their eyes open and their wits about them to avoid getting lost and there are a few bits where some route choice/corner cutting is possible - this is not a x-country race! The section off the final summit/CP is off-path through low heather until a path is regained - there will be a few flags, but this is freestyle. 

u17s & u19s: as above. The extra bit in blue will be only minimally marked, and there is some potential for route choice. Note, care is required when ascending  the scree to the first of the Penmaenbach summit CPs. Runners should also be careful not to turn off the path too early, to the 2nd (main) Penmaenbach summit.

Walled areas are strictly out of bounds: no walls or fences should be crossed at any time.

u7s/9s 1 lap, u11s two laps.

This course will be well marked, but we encourage parents to talk their kids through the route so they know what to expect.
