Q & A Regarding Grades:

Q: I’ve tried to login to Progress Book from the link on the dohnschool.org website and it’s not working. What do I do?

A: Go to the curriculum website: https://sites.google.com/view/dohnschool/home. The link to Progress Book is listed near the top of the page.

Q: What do I do if a student is recently enrolled and they have assignments from the beginning of the quarter that they need to complete?

A: Enter an “I” for incomplete as the quarter grade. Give the students the assignments to complete. The students has 2 weeks to complete and turn in the work. Once you have an updated the quarter grade, email April and she will finalize the grade in Progress Book. If the student does not complete the work, send April the failing grade and she will update Progress Book. It is the teacher’s responsibility to ensure final grades are provided to April within 2 weeks.

Q: I’ve had a student that has experienced an illness and cannot complete all of work for 1st quarter before the end of the quarter.

A: Follow the steps listed above to assign an “Incomplete” for the quarter.

Q: Do Success students get quarter grades?

A: No, Success students do not get quarterly grades.

Q: If a student has been suspended, can they make-up missing work?

A: Yes, a student that has been suspended can make-up work. However, they need to come AFTER school to get this missing work and/or work with a teacher to get the necessary material. If a student has been suspended leading up to the end of the quarter, the teacher should give the student an Incomplete & follow the steps outlined above.

Q: I have a student(s) in my class that are not on my roster when I go to enter grades. What do I do?

A: Contact the student’s counselor to work through this issue.

Q: If a student is exempting my final exam, do they have to come to school?

A: If students are exempting your final exam on Thursday or Friday, they do NOT have to come to school the day of your exam. However, you MUST email the other teachers on your grade-level team with those student names to ensure that those students are not marked absent.

Q: If students are exempting my final exam, what do I input as their final exam grade?

A: For those students that are exempting a final exam, you will need to input the average of their first and second quarter grade for their final exam grade. For instance, if a student earned a 94% first quarter and a 96% second quarter, their final exam grade would be 95%.

Q: How are elective classes graded?

A: All elective courses are pass/fail.

Q: If a student is suspended at the end of the quarter and/or during final exams, what happens to their grade?

A: If a student is suspended at the end of the quarter and/or during the final exam, the teacher gives the student an “incomplete” for the quarter and/or the semester final exam. When we return in January, the student has two weeks to complete the work from the quarter and/or to take the final exam. If the student does not complete the work and/or take the final exam, the student will receive an “F.” In either case, it is the teacher’s responsibility to email April within two weeks with the updated grade.

Q: A student did not come to school to take exams December 14 and/or December 15. What happens to their grade?

A: If a student did not come to school to take exams, the teacher should issue an “F” for the final exam. If the student returns in January with an EXCUSED absence, the student may make-up the exam within two weeks. Once the student has taken the exam, it is the teacher’s responsibility to email April with the updated grade. *Please note that this ONLY applies to students with verified excused absences.
