PAL Jang

The following is a written version of Pal Jang the eighth of the Taeguek Poomse. The techniques are also written in Korean in brackets adjacent.

This poomse is for red belt (2nd Kup) students in order to obtain their red belt black tag (1st Kup).

From ready stance (junbiseogi):

  1. Move the left foot, step forward into a right back stance (oreun dwitkubi) and execute an augmented outward mid section block (kodureo momtong bakkatmakki).
  2. Sliding the left foot forward into a left forward stance (wen apkubi), execute a right mid section punch (momtong barojireugi).
  3. Moving two steps forward execute a double front kick (dubal danseong apchagi) by jumping with a right front kick, followed immediatley with a higher jumping left front kick (wenbal apchagi) with a kihap to complete the double kick. Land into a left forward stance (wen apkubi) and execute a left inner mid section block (momtong anmakki). With the feet fixed execute a double punch (momtong dubeonjireugi), punching with right hand and then left hand.
  4. Stepping forward with the right foot into a right forward stance (oreun apkubi) and execute a right mid section punch (momtong bandaejireugi).
  5. Moving the loeft foot, turn 270 degrees counterclockwise into a right forward stance (oreun apkubi) and execute a single mountain block (wesanteul makki). Looking toward the left side of the body.
  6. Without stepping, slowly pivot into a left forward stance (wen apkubi) and execute a pulling high section uppercut (dangkyo teokjireugi) with slow concentrated force.
  7. Step the left foot in front of the rigth into a front cross stance (apkoaseogi). Moving the right foot, step into left forward stance (wen apkubi) execute a single mountain block (wesanteul makki). Looking toward the right side of the body.
  8. Without stepping, slowly pivot into a right forward stance (oreun apkubi) and execute a pulling high section uppercut (dangkyo teokjireugi) with slow concentrated force.
  9. Moving the right foot turn 90 degrees counterclockwise into a right back stance (oreun dwitkubi), executing a double knife hand guarding block (sonnal momtongmakki).
  10. Slide the left foot forward into a left forward stance (wen apkubi) and execute a right reverse mid section punch (momtong barojireugi).
  11. With the left foot fixed, execute a right front kick (oreunbal apchagi) returning the right foot to into original position. Draw the left foot back into cat stance (oreun beomseogi) and execute a right palm heel mid section block (batangson momtongmakki).
  12. Moving the left foot, turn 90 degrees counter clockwise into left cat stance (wen beomseogi), and execute a knife hand guarding block (sonnal momtongmakki).
  13. With the right foot fixed, execute a left front kick (wenbal apchagi). Set the left foot down into a left forward stance (wen apkubi) and execute a right reverse mid section punch (momtong barojireugi).
  14. Move the left foot towards the right into a left cat stance (wen beomseogi) and execute a left palm heel block (batangsonmakki).
  15. Moving the left foot, turn 270 degrees counter clockwise into right cat stance (oreun beomseogi) and execute a double knife hand guarding block (sonnal momtongmakki).
  16. With the leftt foot fixed, execute a right front kick (oreunbal apchagi). Set the right foot down into a right forward stance (oreun apkubi) and execute a left reverse mid section punch (momtong barojireugi).
  17. Move the right foot towards the left into a right cat stance (oreun beomseogi) and execute a right palm heel block (batangsonmakki).
  18. Moving the left foot, turn 90 degrees clockwise into a left back stance (wen dwitkubi) and execute a right augmented low section block (kodureo arraemakki).
  19. Execute a left front kick (wenbal apchagi) followed immediately by right jump front kick (oreunbal twio apchagi) with kihap. After kicking, land in right front stance (oreun apkubi) and execute a right inner mid section block (momtong anmakki). With the feet fixed, execute a double punch (dubeon jireugi), punching with left hand and then right hand.
  20. Moving the left foot, turn 270 degrees into right back stance (oreun dwitkubi) and execute an outer mid section knife hand block (hansonnal momtong bakkatmakki).
  21. Slide the left foot forward into a left forward stance (wen apkubi) and execute a right elbow strike (oreun palkup dollyochigi).
  22. With the feet fixed, execute a right backfist strike (oreun deungjumeok apchigi).
  23. With the feet fixed, execute a left forward mid section punch (momtong bandaejireugi).
  24. Pivoting, turn 180 degrees clockwise into a left back stance (wen dwitkubi) and execute an outer mid section knife hand block (hansonnal momtong bakkatmakki).
  25. Slide the right foot forward into a right forward stance (oreun apkubi) and execute a left elbow strike (wen palkup dollyochigi).
  26. With the feet fixed, execute a left backfist strike (wen deungjumeok apchigi).
  27. With the feet fixed, execute a right forward mid section punch (momtong bandaejireugi).

Moving the left foot, return to the ready stance (junbiseogi).
