Classes

Classes vary from week to week but all will follow a similar format.

Each class starts with an aerobic warm up and stretching in order to prepare our bodies for the class.

The class will then include some of the following:

Floor work / Technique

This will involve moving up and down the training hall practicing specific techniques and movements.

Poomse/Forms

These are a set sequence of moves incorporating various techniques required for your next grading. As your grades progress, you learn a new poomse, which require you to demonstrate techniques of increasing difficulty.

One Step Sparring

One step sparring is way of demonstrating that a student can control their techniques whilst demonstrating accurate and powerful blocks, hand strikes and kicks. This takes the form of one student attacking and another defending and then alternating in order for both to show their techniques.

Self Defence

We start every self defence session learning and practising to fall correctly in order to not hurt ourselves when practising higher level techniques.

We teach the students basic releases in order to escape someone's grasp. This then develops into basic takedowns, moving on to locks and countering attacking movements.

Technical Breaking

Technical breaking is used at gradings to demonstrate that a student can apply kicks and hand strikes (over 16s) correctly. Break boards are generally two part plastic boards of varying thickness that can be slotted back together. To break the boards a student needs to hit the board accurately along its break line. The thicker boards requiring more power to break it.

Non-Contact Sparring & Competition Fight Training

We DO NOT teach students to street fight.

Non-contact sparring allows students to "fight" using a moving target to practice their techniques.

Competition sparring is similar to non-contact sparring, however the competitor is equipped with protective pads and the aim is to out score your opponent.

In both scenarios the same basic rules apply:

ALL kicks and strikes MUST be above the belt.

ALL punches (no open hand techniques) are to the body. NO hand techniques are allowed to the face and head.

NO head kicks for under 12s.
