After 5 flights and nearly 24 hours travel time to get to Italy, two full day long bus trips in Sicily, 638 driving miles through 5 Italian regions on our own in 4 days, visiting 14 cities, and 6 different hotel stays, it was time to leave Italy and head for home.

We woke at 6 am from a good night's sleep at the Malpensa Sheraton, packed up, had breakfast at the hotel, and then walked over to terminal 1 at Milano's Malpensa airport to check in for our flight to Frankfurt. This time Darrell and I made it past the check in counter with two bags each. Poor Esther was grabbed by the agent next to us. She made Esther leave the Lufthansa counter to go pay 50 Euros for her second bag and then come back to check in. The brief argument between the agent who checked Darrell and I in and the agent who checked Esther is exactly where stereotypes come from. The air route from Milan to Frankfurt took us directly over Lake Como, Lake Luggano, the Alps, and Zurich, Switzerland. The views were spectacular! During our layover in Frankfurt we payed proper tribute and had a frankfurter and a bier!

We hope you enjoyed the blog of our very special trip to Italy with Darrell. Until the next adventure...Ciao!
