Newfoundland Songs

David's spouse Marly was born and grew up in Newfoundland and Labrador. They spent many summers visiting family and friends on the Rock. Out of these experiences have come a number of songs about Newfoundland and Labrador.

When the World Drops In to Town Words and music by David Kai. A song celebrating the people of Gander, Newfoundland & Labrador in Canada who helped close to 7,000 stranded airline passengers after September 11, 2001. The story of Gander and the surrounding towns has been immortalized in the Broadway show, "Come From Away." The song is written in a Celtic/Newfoundland style. This song features the use of an "Ugly Stick", a traditional Newfoundland percussion instrument. This song is dedicated to Marly's parents, Isaac and Sybil who were a part of the crew who helped the plane people in Gander through their involvement in the Anglican church.
