In the Still of Night

This song is based on Prelude in E minor by Polish composer Frédéric Chopin. To me this one of the most beautiful piano pieces ever written. The words fit a theme for which I find there are little resources for - what is often known as "the slaughter of the innocents" which falls on the Sunday after Christmas. I felt that Chopin's moving prelude provided the perfect backdrop for this theme. Scripture references: Matthew 2: 13-18, Luke 4: 18 -19, Luke 1: 46-55 (Mary's Magnificat).

In the still of night a child is born

and none could know

the sorrows to come,

Will he see the break of day

or will the Herods of the world extinguish the light?

which came to break the chains of those oppressed

and to cast the mighty from their thrones to bring the kindom of God
