For this project in French III, I did a presentation on Quebec politics. During this time in class, we had been learning about Quebec and its relations with France and England. We focused on the cultural aspect of Quebec and how it differs from authentic French culture. In Quebec, they speak French, but specifically Quebecois. This French language differs similarly to American English and British English. This project specifically focused on the government and politics.

During this project, I learned a lot about the different structures of the Quebec government that were similar to the United States’. It was interesting to recognize how the Quebec people had sovereignty movements. There were multiple movements and the last being the closest to achieving sovereignty. Though there have been movements in the past, I found it interesting that many Quebec people believe that that was their last chance of becoming an independent nation. This was fascinating to me because the United States had fought for their independence against Great Britain, while Quebec casted a vote attempting to achieve it. The parallels between the two were interesting to research and to present to my class. Overall, I learned a lot about recognizing perspectives and understanding how different French speaking region’s governments operate.
