In March 2022, a group of students from the Model United Nations class attended the National High School Model United Nations, NHSMUN, conference in New York City. This position paper prepared my partner and I to fully understand the Organization of the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, OPCW. We used this research to expand our knowledge of the UN and its power across the world. The conference was extremely informative and I was very grateful to be a part of it. We had three days full of conferences. During these conferences, we created resolutions and participated in beneficial discussions with other delegates who shared similar interests.

This is a trip that I will never forget. It was lots of fun to meet new people from all over the world. Many people had traveled far to attend this conference. I got to connect with people from Italy, Sweden, Peru, and others from the United States. It greatly expanded my knowledge of how to communicate with others who may not be native English speakers. I enjoyed learning from others who had been to conferences similar to this before. They had great knowledge of the world and Model UN conferences. This position paper gave me knowledge to help me excel during the conference. Before this paper, I had never heard of the OPCW and how chemical weapons are greatly impacting our environment. It was very informative to learn about this organization and its history. During the conference, we discussed the effects of chemical weapons in Syria at the moment. By the end of the weekend, we had passed two full resolutions to attempt to solve the Syrian Chemical Weapons issue.
