GSC Timeline

Genealogy Sunshine Coast – an outline 2021

Established in 1978, this group has continued and amalgamated over the years, until it was able to build our own premises on council land in Petrie Park Road, Nambour, just opposite the swimming pool.

In 2014 we extended the original building, doubling our building in size and creating our GSC Learning for Life Community Hub.

This space is designed to encourage community learning and activities and to develop skills and resources which can be used to assist our key aims to

This summary covers just some of our many projects but it will some idea of how these collective endeavours are building towards a comprehensive and easily accessible Sunshine Coast history collection for research and community information.

Usage and reach –

Our GSC Resource Centre is open to the public for 5 out of seven days each week, although the centre is used at other times by our volunteers for scanning, indexing and publishing projects. Visitors can phone for an appointment at other times.

The centre is staffed and operated entirely by volunteers who are involved in not only research queries but all the work that goes into creating a digitally accessible collection using a variety of search software and indexing tools.

We estimate that we reach at least 7000 people directly per annum who come into our centre or attend events. With the extension of our building which we call our GSC Learning for Life Community Hub, we have the capacity to hold many workshops per annum and much larger events.
