GSC 1994-2021

1994 -With loans from members and fundraising, the total money for the building was raised and work commenced. The building was actually bought in under cost. Members made shelving and display panels, curtains, built rock walls and fences and moved the stock from Forest Glen to Petrie Park and a permanent home.

1994 – Members raised an additional $14,000 for fit out of premises and donated thousands of hours of labour to complete and landscape the building

1995

On Sunday 25th February 1995, the building was officially opened. Maroochy Shire Council refurbished the carpark, planted garden beds and shade trees and built a waterfall to drain off excess water.

In the previous two financial years, the group had raised $30,000 from other than government sources, paid all debts including loans, and still maintained our usual services to members. The June bank account stood at $1,744.18.

1996 – Membership fee increased to $30 per annum with 204 members

1996 – Cemetery indexing project commenced. A sub-committee was formed to record and indexing memorial inscriptions and burial records in the Maroochy Shire. Computer classes are held at the Centre.

1997 -Work on cemetery indexing continues. This involves visiting every cemetery, transcribing every inscription in detail, matching the records with the burial register,  and then rechecking each cemetery when the data is entered to make sure no errors have occurred in the transcription.

1998 – Council assisted with $3100 to help pay for a storeroom on the end of the building

1998 - A team of volunteers enter data on Excel spreadsheets for entry into the final database. They work at home due to the lack of computers at the centre, though members work there when they can. One of our members kept count of the hours she spent entering data. It amounted to 110 hours and Elva was one of about 15 people who kept the project alive over  7 years.
