If you are researching your family history, we recommend that you use a genealogy software program with your computer to make the process of compiling and updating your family history so much easier.
We can advise on a range of quality software that our members use and recommend and we hold workshops and classes to help you make the most of your genealogy programme.
Most of these programs have a free version which you can download and use to record your research. You can choose to upgrade these free versions to a pay version with more features at a later date, but your data will be easily transferred to an updated version.

ROOTS MAGIC 7
One of our favourite programs to use to record your family history and we hold regular workshops to help you get the most out of this versatile piece of software.
You can find a comparison of the relative features of each version on the Rootsmagic website.
We also keep stock of the companion book " Getting the most out of Rootsmagic" for sale.
You can download a free essentials version of the software to try it out - all your work will be saved and you can transfer it to the full version of the program very easily when you purchase the software and have a registration code to enter.
A new rewritten version of the RM software is Rootsmagic 8 which is currently finalising their community preview testing. You might wish to watch to preview videos of RM8 from the link on the Rootsmagic website.
LEGACY 9
Legacy 9 is also an excellent software program which can be purchased online. The Charting Companion which comes with this software is an excellent version for creating family tree charts.

FAMILY HISTORIAN 7
Family Historian 7 is quite a unique program and works from a GEDCOM file. We use it for developing projects with multiple files so that we can compare links with families, including those unrelated.
