Notes for CARL EDWIN JOHNSON:

"Ed" and Della visited their mom's homeland of Sweden, in late September - early October of 1985.

They, "flew into Vaxjo... took a bus to Karishamn... then went to Solvesborg by train... then took four trips

to Gammalstrop."

The community of Gammalstrop (pronounced Gomia Staden) north east of Solvesborg is where Bettie

Johnson, Ed's mom was raised. They found the home that Bettie was raised in and the house appeared

in somewhat original condition. The house had been moved across a road. A man lived in the house.

They also wrote about visiting a large Lutheran Church in Gammalstrop presumed to be where Bettie and

family attended.

The surrounding community is described as neat and clean, narrow roads, and many people use bicycles to get around the area. Blekinge Province is located on the southeastern tip of Sweden and Solvesborg is located next to the Baltic Sea (56th parallel). North of there is a well known area for glass and crystal making.

-- Information from a small booklet, "Sweden '85" written by Ed and Della upon their return.

Notes for DELLA BYRN:

Della played wonderful piano by ear!
