After the death of Hannah Hamer, James Alexander and son Benjamin moved to Odessa, Missouri from Bedford, Indiana (moved in 1882).

Born 1843 in Indiana. Her parents were Jacob and Jane Hammer. The 1850 census list her as 7 years of age and living at Halbert, Martin, Indiana. The 1860 census has her living in Marion, Lawrence, Indiana, with Mitchel listed as the post office.
