Jerry Kenneth Craig WW2 Military Service

Draft Card Registration dated February 16, 1942 through Carrollton, MO Draft Board.

Entered Service (active duty) October 20, 1942 in Kansas City, MO.

December 1943 to February 1944 : Stationed at Fort Walton Beach.

March 1944: USGC Barracks Savannah GA, then to Norfolk, VA. Was assigned to Gun Crew PF 17 USS Key West. (Tacoma Class Patrol Frigate)

April 1944: Brooklyn, New York. On leave for two weeks (*was married while on leave) before deployment on the USS Key West.

November 1944, Galveston Bay for training and then to Bermuda for escort duty.

January to June, 1945, crossed the Atlantic six times. Escorted a convoy to Oran, Algeria, in January and February of 1945.

July 1945 went through Panama Cannel and August Pearl Harbor, then on the Guam.

November 7, 1945. Alameda California pending discharge.

Separation (discharged) from Service November 19, 1945, eligibility under point system.

Character of Discharge: Honorable.

Rank: Seaman First Class 1c(R), pay grade 5.

Job Field Preference: Farming.

*Married Pauline Herberger while on leave May 4, 1944 in Kansas City, Kansas. "Mr Craig has been in the Coast Guard for 18 months and will report for duty May 14th at Brooklyn, New York." (unidentified newspaper article).
