Who runs The Trombone Place?

Who is the person behind The Trombone Place? The question has come up more than a few times, so even though this website is meant to be all about you and helping you grow into a better musician, let me share this brief answer-

My name is Pete Freeman, and my mission is to do whatever I can to educate, encourage, and motivate others to discover the joy and excitement that comes from playing the trombone. I was the principal trombonist for the South Shore Symphony Orchestra located on Long Island, New York;  a proud member of the Nassau Pops Symphony Orchestra; and have performed with the Band of Long Island, and in many jazz bands and pit orchestras across the metropolitan New York area. I have also performed in, as well as served as President for the Massapequa Philharmonic Orchestra. As a retired Band Director and Arts Administrator, I’ve taught students and worked with teachers at all levels from elementary school through college, and am a Past President of Nassau (County) Music Educators Association and the Nassau County Chapter of the New York State Council of Administrators of Music Education.

The reason for starting The Trombone Place is quite simple- I was searching for a website that was a fun and safe place where beginner through intermediate (advanced too!) players and their teachers could find information, motivation, and inspiration. It had to have very simple and specific lessons so that people could quickly and easily find exactly what they were looking for, and the videos had to be short enough to encourage repeat-as-needed viewing. I didn’t find what I was looking for- so in April, 2020, I started this site.

I am the humble husband to my gorgeous wife Joann, the blessed father to Jeanette and Billy- both wonderful trombonists in their own right!, and the best buddy to Louie, our Maltese dog. Finally, I’m a proud alum of Penn State (The Pennsylvania State University).

So now you know about me… Please- it would be wonderful to learn about you!!! If you ever have a comment or a question, please email me at thetromboneplace@gmail.com and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.
