The INTERNATIONAL TROMBONE ASSOCIATION is an organization that supports all trombonists no matter what level they are. The Trombone Place strongly recommends that you join it. The dues are low, and the benefits are wonderful!!!

DR.  JASON SULLIMAN has some wonderful vidoes about warming up, practicing, and performing. He has also studied how we learn and why we should do fast practice in addition to very slow practice. He also has some very funny videos!!!

JENNIFER WHARTON is an amazing bass trombonist. Her group, Bonegasm, is made up of four trombones and a rhythm section, and they are just incredible!!!

DENSON PAUL POLLARD is a trombone professor at Indiana University and is the bass trombonist for the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. His videos include awesome performances as well as lessons with lots of great information!

THE CHOPS SHOP is the youtube channel for Dion Tucker, a New York City-based professional trombonist. His instructional video playlist contain some great information for you to think about as you practice and grow.

TROMBONE101.COM is a site by trombonist and educator Sean Reusch, has some really cool resources. There are wonderful resources under the Teaching tab, including a beautifully laid out list of major scales, the 6 P's of Practice, and a Weekly Practice Checklist that can be used by beginners and advanced players. The interviews with great trombonists, (An Artist's Corner), contain a ton of information and inspiration! There's more to explore as well- you'll enjoy your time here.

TROMBONEZONE.ORG is the website for trombone professor (Arizona State University), performer, and author Brad Edwards. There are many resources here, including audition-style solos and information on how to practice, how to increase your range, and hints on tuning. Mr. Edwards' books are used by many trombonists, and video recordings from his THE INTERMEDIATE TROMBONIST Duets book are on Method Book Duet Parts page of this site.

SHAWN BELL is a Nebraska (United States)-based trombonist/educator who has created some excellent video lessons on basic playing through more advanced concepts and jazz techniques. He moves quickly, so repeated viewing may be helpful, and the effort will be worth it.

AMY BOWERS is a fabulous trombonist and euphonium player. If you click on the VIDEOS tab on her YouTube channel, you can watch her wonderful performances of many festival (and other) solos. The real nuggets here, though, are her videos that include both a performance and a detailed commentary with hints and tips about how to approach and practice the solo that she just played. If you're working on one of these pieces, you will find her lessons invaluable!!!

TROMBONEGUIDE.COM is an educational website created and run by Alex Knutrud. There are excellent downloadable warmup exercises at different levels for all trombonists, other great materials, and informative and entertaining interviews with professional trombonists. The tips you'll hear in the video interviews are priceless!!!

BONE2PICK is a series of interviews by Michael Davis with the finest jazz and classical trombonists in the world. Mr. Davis is a wonderful jazz trombonist and educator, and these interviews are so enlightening and entertaining. They are part of his Hip-Bone series of videos, lessons, and books.

LISA LIZ's YouTube channel is filled with lessons on fundamentals, pointers for specific etudes and solos, and excellent performances. No matter what you watch here, you'll notice three things- she's a great performer, she's a excellent educator, and she has so much fun playing, teaching, and sharing!

NIKKI ABISSI is a tremendous trombonist and teacher. She is also the inventor of the Extendabone, a very inexpensive devise that helps make playing the sixth and seventh positions easier for those who's arms may not be able to comfortably reach them. The FOR TEACHERS page of her website has some terrific posters that you might find very helpful.

SHANNON GUNN is a Washington D.C. based trombonist, composer and educator. The link here is to a wonderful presentation she did about apps for jazz musicians. When you're there, go to her channel to hear her perform her own compositions and those of others with a variety of ensembles. Great stuff!!!

JANE SALMON is from London, England. She is a performer, teacher, and a committee member of the British Trombone Society, where her leadership roles included serving a term as the editor of the BTS magazine THE TROMBONIST. Her website has magnificent warm-up exercises and scales based on the ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) system. There are also lessons about playing, maintaining, and proper cleaning of the instrument. Just a terrific resource!!!

VICKI GARCIA is a freelance trombonist from Boston, Massachusetts. She has performed with such groups as the Boston Symphony, the Boston Pops, and the Philadelphia Orchestra. In this video/podcast, she talks about her experiences as a younger player and the things she's encountered as a female trombonist. Her insights are something you can learn alot from! (For our younger viewers- there's a couple of semi-strong words here. We think you can handle it!)

DR. ELISABETH SHAFER is the trombone professor at Ohio State University. She has performed in recitals as well as with orchestras across the United States. The trombone choir videos on her YouTube channel are absolutely wonderful! To get the most out of them, pick one and just watch and listen. Then, watch again and this time focus on one part. Notice how she plays it in different situations during the performance. Sometimes the part has the melody, so she's leading the ensemble. Other times it's harmony, so the rhythm is the same as the melody but the notes support it and make it sound fuller. And sometimes it's a background part that serves as a foundation for the melody to thrive off of. Enjoy!

JAMES MARKEY is the bass trombonist for the Boston Symphony Orchestra as well as a trombone teacher and Chair of Winds and Percussion at the New England Conservatory of Music. His personality is very calming and reassuring, and you'll feel like you're in good hands when you listen to him. His YouTube channel is filled with incredible instructional and performance videos that will inspire you to practice as they motivate you to want to improve. You will really enjoy watching and listening!

NICK FINZER is one of the hottest trombonists on the jazz scene. He's a great performer, composer, and educator. He is Assistant Professor of Jazz Trombone at the University of North Texas. His YouTube channel includes educational as well as performance videos. His thoughts on warming up and jazz are worth watching and learning from!

DR. MARTIN McCAIN is a bass trombonist who has performed all over the world and has made some fantastic recordings. He teaches at Texas State University. The videos on his YouTube channel highlight both his playing and his teaching. His mouthpiece warmup video is especially wonderful, and is easy to play along with. The duets (with his wife on piano- also an amazing musician!) are also incredible!!!

BOLD AS BRASS is a great podcast. Melissa Brown is a wonderful host (and a fellow trombonist!) who, for each episode, has a conversation with an accomplished brass player. These talks are very informal and are as fun as they are interesting. Even the theme song is cool! (Insider tip- If you're ever a guest, make sure you know whether you prefer cats or dogs!)

THE MUSICIAN'S GUIDE PODCAST is hosted by Karen Cubides, who is an expert in helping classical musicians grow their careers. Her knowledge of how to use social media as a tool is unmatched, and her advice and interviews with experts cover many career, financial, and physical well-being topics, and they are always top notch and chock full of tips!

DR. LUIS FRED is the trombone professor at the University of Central Florida and is also a member of the Trombones de Costa Rica. He is a wonderful performer and his incredible YouTube channel has two types of videos- concerts and practice demonstrations. In the practice ones, he goes through methods that promote healthy production habits. He demonstrates his core belief in the power and universality of music through everything he does. 

DR. BEN MCILWAIN is the trombone professor at the University of Southern Mississippi. His website has a lot of wonderful stuff, especially a blog where he shares very interesting thoughts about trombone playing, teaching, and music in general. The videos from his studio are excellent!!!

IAN BOUSFIELD is one of the finest trombonists in the world. He has played with some of the finest orchestras and has been a member of some amazing chamber groups such as the Aries Trombone Quartet. On his podcast, he talks about many different aspects of trombone playing, music in general, and general life lessons and skills. It's always interesting and always entertaining!

KATE WARREN is an incredible french horn performer and teacher whose Instagram is always interesting, inspiring, and fun! Her pointers on practicing, performing, and creating a successful mindset will help any musician!!!

ISLANDTROMBONE.COM is the website of Canadian trombonist Dale Sorensen. There are great links to a discography of classical trombone cd's, composition tips, and his teaching website. 

VIRTUAL TROMBONE ACADEMY has some educational and fun videos that you may enjoy.

THE TROMBONE RETREAT is an amazing podcast hosted by trombonists Sebastian Vera and Nick Schwartz. They interview the world's finest trombone performers and educators, and the stories and insights are always incredible. Choose any episode- you can't go wrong!

WOMEN COMPOSERS FOR TROMBONE is an amazing site created by Natalie Mannix (learn about her and hear her play in the Pantheon of Great Trombonists on this site!). This is an amazing resource that not only lists trombone compositions by woman composers- it also provides links to learn more about them and, in many instances, hear them.
