Songs from “EFFECTIVE ETUDES FOR JAZZ" by Carubia and Jarvis
Kendor Music 2004 (vlm.1) and 2014 (vlm.2)
These songs are from the two books entitled "Effective Etudes for Jazz." Some are based on famous jazz tunes- click on the name of the original song to hear it. They are all listed as graded solos by the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA). Alternate slide positions are used extensively!!!
(MIKE CARUBIA AND JEFF JARVIS ARE WONDERFUL COMPOSERS AND TRUMPET PLAYERS. MANY OF THE SONGS IN THESE BOOKS ARE MUCH EASIER ON TRUMPET THAN ON TROMBONE- THE ALTERNATE POSITIONS ARE AN ATTEMPT TO ALLOW THE TROMBONIST TO MORE EASILY HANDLE THE TECHNICAL DEMANDS OF THE SONGS AND TO ALSO HELP CREATE MUSICAL PHRASES THAT ARE APPROPRIATE.)
There are many alternate positions in these songs. If you'd like to see a list of the ones used for a specific tune, there are two ways. You can either click on the photo of the piece and then click on the word YOUTUBE on the bottom. This will open the video in YouTube, and you can then open the description. Most include the list as well as some pointers. For the few that don't, or if you'd rather just ask, please email us at thetromboneplace@gmail.com and we'll be glad to send them to you.
