Thursday April 18 2024 Closing Dinner

It has been another exciting year and the ending just added to the adventure. The leak of the refrigeration gas in our system made us close down one week early meaning we missed two days of regular curling and the playoffs for the Beliveau Draw and the Spring Doubles. We will pick up next year where we left off and when we have all the equipment in working order.

Despite the changes to our schedule we had a tremendous turnout to our closing dinner with over 85 attendees. Special thanks to our iceman Allan Jones for all he has done for us this year. Thanks also to those volunteers that kept the libations flowing throughout the year. (Bob Hart, Clifford Dalphy, Peter Atwood and Bill Sansom.)

In attendance we had special guest Shirley Sayer, and former Hardy Rocks, Jim Tisdall, Moe Lafoley, Gerry Foliot, Mike Sheppard, Claude Turmel, Art Woods, Ian Peck, Jack Bannon, Edmond LeBeouf, Janice Robinson and Peter Falardeau.

Moe Lafoley reminded us of the passing of of our member David Leith earlier this season and asked us to think positive thoughts  for Mike Archambault, Jim Lacey and Ken Barrieau.

Bob Fournier kept us up to date with the draws, Neil Tomiuk covered our finances and membership numbers, Gilles Leblanc talked about the interclub and how he would like to see participation increase next year.  Yves Gauthier and Moe Lafoley arranged the delicious dinner of Pork Schnitzel and Key Lime pie put on by Stewart Lebaron as well as all the prizes that were handed out. Richard Little has handled the lockers, broom racks and other small maintenance items and we have all been helped at one time or other by Bob Burns. Mike Homsy looked after the trophies. The committee will get Steve Shaw next year as a new member.

Jen Hallessey made a great presentation on sponsoring the refurbishing of our rocks for next year. Glenn Ruiter described how we had 4 schools come again this year for a curling demonstration and how our efforts with young students were recognized and merited 5th place in the whole country.

Gilbert Berthoud was the lucky winner of $250 in the 50/50 draw.

Thanks again to all the volunteers who helped serve the meal and set up and clean up afterwards.

See you all next year!

Dec 21 2023

The finals for the Ham & Turkey Draw (Bill Driver Trophy) were held on Dec 21st.

Team Coutts played Team Gosselin in the semi finals. It was 3 - 2 for Gosselin after 5 but Coutts had the hammer coming home. There were four rocks in the 4 foot circle after Jean Luc played his last shot. John Coutts was sure he had one point to tie and felt he had a second to take the semi finals. He made the decision not to throw his last rock and mess things up. It came down to a measurement and Coutts was the winner of the semi finals.

Team Leblanc took 5 in the first end but Team Poulter took one in each of the next 5 ends to tie the game in the 6th end.  Paul Rainbow made an angle raise to the button in the 5th end to force the 6th. Paul Rainbow playing for Chris Poulter and Gilles Leblanc had to make a draw to the button to decide the match. BOTH ! failed to score on their first attempt but Gilles Leblanc outdrew Paul Rainbow on the second try to take the semi finals.

Team Gosselin playing against team Poulter in the third place game but team Poulter was not to be denied.

Team Coutts and Team Leblanc were tied after 4 ends in the final but Coutts took 4 in the 5th which spelled the end for team Leblanc. TEAM COUTTS WINS the Bill Driver Trophy and Team Leblanc takes second place.

Over 85 people were there to witness the finals and enjoy a wonderful turkey dinner put on by Stuart Lebaron.  We got to see old friends Ian Peck, Gerry Foliot, Meredith Royds, Janice Robinson, Peter Falardeau, Edmond LeBeouf Peter Atwood, Jim Markham, Mike Sheppard, Art Woods, Bill Sansom, and Bob Hart.

Thanks to Bob Hart, Bill Sansom and Peter Atwood for bar tending . DON'T FORGET we are looking for bartenders in the new year. Training will be given.

Thanks to Allan Jones for looking after the ice for us.

Gilles Leblanc talked about the interclub and Neil Tomiuk covered our finances and introduced all our new members. Glenn Ruiter talked about the school kids program and looking for helpers.
