Opening Event

 General information

The Opening Event for 2020-21 has been cancelled because of Covid-19 . We will be trying to get the season going with the new Covid-19 protocol rules.

How to Play the Opening Event: Hot Shots

 (you will note that each day is equal to four ends of play)

DAY ONE

1.   Take Out: the leads throw three practice shots then one for points, The 2nds throw three practice shots then one for points. The 3rds and skips do the same thing in the opposite direction.

2.   Come around: done in the same way as the take out first the leads and 2nds throw 3 practice shots plus one for points then the 3rds and skips throw their shots in the other direction

DAY TWO

3.   Centre Line Guard: the leads throw three practice shots then one for points

4.   Chip and Roll: the skip throws three practice shots then one for points

5.   Raise: The 2nds and 3rds throw their three practice shots and one for points in the other direction

6.   DRAW to 12 ft: The lead and second throw three practice shots plus one for points

7.   Hit and Roll: The 3rds and skips throw 3 practice shots and one shot for points

FINALS (the points on the final day count 3x the normal points)

1.   All the leads and seconds will pick one shot from their list, they will have one practice shot and then shoot one for points. The teams will throw in reverse order of the points they have so far (lowest points to highest) the evening curlers will throw last.

2.   The scores for the day will be totaled and the thirds and skips will throw in the order of the teams with lowest points to highest choosing one of the shots from their list with one practice shot and one for points.

Points

 

1st  shot - Take Out                         Everyone

- rock is placed on button

Take out and thrown rock remains in 4ft. -3 points

Take out and thrown rock remains in 8ft – 2 points

Take out and thrown rock rolls anywhere else in house - 1 point

Anything else - 0 – points (you must have a complete take out to count)

 

 

 

2nd shot - Come Around               Everyone

 - a rock is placed approx. halfway. in front of house on center line           

Biting the button – 4 points

Anywhere in house biting the center line - 3 points

Anywhere in house within 6” of centre line 2 points

Anywhere else in house - 1 - point

Short or through - 0 points

 

3rd  shot - Center line guard           (Lead)

Anywhere between house and hog line biting the center line - 3 points

Anywhere between house and hog line 6” from center line    - 2 points

Anywhere between house and hog line > 6”from center line  - 1 point       

Anywhere else - 0 points.

 

 

4th  shot chip-and Roll                    (Skip)

-rock is placed approx. 6 in. in front of house on either side of center line

Chip stationery rock into house and roll thrown rock into house - 5 points

Only one rock in house - 2 points

No rocks in house - 0 points (must hit the front rock to count)

 

5th  shot – Raise                              (2nd, 3rd)

- a rock is placed approx. 3 ft in front of house on center line.

Straight back raise biting the center line – 5  points

Raise within 6” of the center line - 2 points

Raise somewhere in the house - 1 point

Raised rock not in house - 0 points.

 

 

6th  shot - Draw   to 12ft                            (Lead, 2nd)

– draw to the 12 foot at Tee line

Draw to the full 12 ft. biting the Tee line - 5  points

Draw to outside the 4 ft  within 12” of Tee line - 2  points

Draw anywhere else in the house - 1 point

Anything else -0 – points

 

 

 

7th  shot - Hit and Roll                     (3rd, Skip)

- rock is placed in the 8 ft. in front of Tee line on one side

Take out the rock and roll to the centerline; 4 points

Take out the rock and roll towards the centerline; 3 points

Take out and stick in position - 2 points

Take out and roll out - 1 point

Anything else - 0 – points (you must have a complete take out to count)
