The book is a collection of essays, articles and papers providing a refreshing review of Islamic history. Its aim is to remind Muslims of their cultural heritage and the role Islam can play in the world. The first part, "The Mission and Men of Islam," includes discourses on the Prophet of Islam's philosophy and details the lives of Imam Husayn, Caliph Umar bin Abdul Aziz, and Syed Jamal al-Din al-Afghani. The second part, "Islam and Toleration," focuses on the relations of past Muslim rulers with non-Muslims, from the Prophet to the Mughal Emperors of India. The author challenges the critics of early and medieval Muslim governments. He has attempted to prove that Islam is a progressive religion that was a forerunner in condemning injustice and oppression and now offers a viable solution to many of the problems that mankind is confronted with today.
