SUDOKU

9x9 Sudoku puzzles can be solved using CryptoCrack. This solver is included in the program as these puzzles are regularly included in the ACA’s publication The Cryptogram. Puzzles can be pasted or typed into the textbox as a string of characters, then press return to enter the puzzle into the grid, or entered directly into the cells of the square. Pale yellow cells in the puzzle indicate the original values.

The program will accept letters (A-Z) or numbers (1-9) in the problem. If entering a string of characters in the textbox use a hyphen (-), full stop (.) or zero (0) to represent a blank cell. Spaces can be included but will be ignored.

Equations must be entered as follows:

Example:

Y-L------ ---O----- V--L-ES-- -LR-S--O- S-------T -T--LD-E- --ST----Y -----RL-- ------V-O

Paste or type the puzzle into the top field.

The entered puzzle must contain 81 characters, excluding spaces and mus be all letters or all numbers.

Press enter/return key.

The fixed cell positions will be shown in the table with a yellow background. The unknown positions will be left blank.

Click Solve to solve the puzzle.

Solution

After clicking the Solve button the program will try to solve the puzzle.

If a solution is found it will be displayed in the table with the characters found  by the computer highlighted in blue. If a single solution is found the window will display 'Unique solution found' at the bottom of the window otherwise the number of solutions found will be shown.

On completion of the puzzle the program will also try to find a keyword which is included in puzzles created by the American Cryptogram Association's publication The Cryptogram.

This will be found in a single row, column or a 3x3 square and can be found in various directions; horizontally or vertically, and forwards or backwards.

This keyword consists of one or more words.

The computer will also attempt to find the keyword if it contains one or two words. This uses the dictionary files with the language selected from the Keyword language setting in the main window.
