Installation
Requirements
CryptoCrack is only available for Windows 11/10/8 (including Windows 10 LTSC) and requires Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.2 (x86 and x64) or later. This shouldn't be an issue as .NET Framework 4.7.2 was included with the Windows 10 April 2018 Update. It may run on a MAC with Parallels Desktop however it doesn't run on Linux with WINE as it requires .NET Framework 4.7.2 or later.
Download and Install
The latest version of CryptoCrack can be downloaded from the Download and Installation page.
Click on the Click here to DOWNLOAD button.
Note: When you click on the button you may see a warning from Google Drive saying that the selected file can't be virus scanned.
Click on the Download anyway button. This will download the CryptoCrack setup program to your default download folder.
Note: You may need to click the Download anyway button twice.
Windows 11/10/8 Users only. Once downloaded locate and double-click the CryptoCrack_v3.x.x_setup .exe file.
If the Microsoft Defender SmartScreen appears click 'More Info'. This will show Application: CryptoCrack.exe and Publisher: Unknown publisher and reveal the 'Run anyway' button.
Click the Run anyway button to install.
This will install the program from raw.githubusercontent.com which is where the program setup files are held.
Once installed CryptoCrack will appear in the Windows 10 Start Menu from where it can be run.
Note: Running the downloaded setup file installs the program at C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Apps\2.0\... and places a link to it on the Windows 10 Start menu. This location cannot be changed and is a result of using Microsoft ClickOnce to automatically install the program.
One of the benefits of using ClickOnce is that it enables the program to be self-updating so you don't have to repeatedly download and install files manually from the website.
Dictionary and Language Data Files
Before running the program download the data files containing the dictionary files and language files from the links below.
If you only intend to solve English language ciphers download the English_Dictionary_and_Data.zip file. Otherwise download the All_Languages_Dictionary_and_Data.zip file.
These contain the Language and Dictionary folders which should be located wherever you normally store your document files such as "C:\Users\<username>\Documents\CryptoCrack\..". They can be installed on another drive if you prefer.
Notes: It is recommended to create a folder called CryptoCrack to store these sub-folders though this is optional and can be called any name.
Don't place these folders in the same location as where the CryptoCrack.exe is installed as this will cause an error when running the program.
The program is now ready to run.
