Variety of Contacts

A count of letter contacts can be shown by selecting the Variety of Contacts command bar icon. This generates a table of the frequency of all pairs of cipher characters.

The frequency count reflects the valid characters for the cipher type selected and will only show letters (A-Z), numbers (0-9) and hash (#). Other punctuation, including spaces, is ignored.

The first letter of each pair is shown on the left of the table and the second letter is shown at the top. So, cipher text ABCDEF will show a count of five pairs (AB, BC, CD, DE and EF).

The end of the rows and columns displays the total for that particular row or column.

In the example shown L is followed by L one time and by K five times, and P is preceded by L four times and by K three times. L appears 29 times, excluding the final letter of the cipher, and W appears 23 times, excluding the final letter.
