2018-19 1st/2nd Grade ICT Class!
Summer 2018 Dear Students and Families,
We hope you are all having a wonderful summer. We will be your children’s 1st/2nd grade co-teachers for the 2018-2019 school year at The Earth School. As a team, we will work to support your children through whole group, small group, and individualized instruction.
From Kimberly:
This will be my 5th year at The Earth School. I have been teaching Early Childhood Education in the East Village community for 16 years. I also work with horses, supporting therapeutic horsemanship for children and adults with disabilities. I have two college age children, both of whom are graduates of The Earth School. I have been enjoying summer by traveling along the North West Coast and will be enjoying time with friends and family camping, hiking and gardening. I am excited to hear about all of your summer adventures!
From Vanessa:
This will be my 14th year at the Earth School. I grew up outside of Washington, DC in a multicultural Chilean and Irish family. Now I have two children of my own. A seven-year-old and a three-year-old. We have been spending the summer traveling and visiting many parks and cities in California as well as friends and family in Florida and Mexico. I’ve also enjoyed growing vegetables and herbs in my tiny city garden. I'm looking forward to seeing all of you and hearing about your summer activities.
This school year our core curriculum will focus on the waterways of New York City. The students will be learning about the water surrounding our city by investigating topics such as the water cycle, landforms, animals of the waterways, how people depend upon water, and what we can do to help conserve our resources. We will support this study through many trips around the city.
Think about bringing in a summer artifact to share during the first couple of weeks of school. The artifact can be a rock or seashell you found, a picture you drew, a poem you wrote, a book you read, or anything that reminds you of your summer. We will be creating a special exhibit all about ourselves and these summer artifacts will be included. Make sure you choose something you don't mind leaving at school for a few weeks.
We have attached a questionnaire. Please fill this out even if you were in this class last year. There is also a supply list for our classroom.
We are looking forward to meeting new students and their families as well as welcoming back and continuing to work with the 2nd graders. The first day of school is September 5th. Enjoy the rest of your summer!
