Luxembourgish

Wëllkomm zu Sheffield! Bienvenue à Sheffield! Willkommen in Sheffield!

If you are fascinated by all things multilingual and multicultural, Luxembourg Studies is for you. Luxembourg sits at the heart of Western Europe: Luxembourg City is one of the three capitals of the EU and the vast majority of people are highly multilingual, with most speaking Luxembourgish, French and German.

Luxembourg and its language is unique! Before you launch into Luxembourgish in year 2, you will usually be a student of French or German at Level 1 to develop proficiency in one of the other languages of the country.

If you want to study Luxembourgish Culture, you can begin studying at Level 2. It is also possible to spend half of your Year Abroad in Luxembourg.

Outside of Luxembourg, Sheffield is the International Centre for Luxembourg Studies.

You can learn the Luxembourgish language from scratch and continue to the next level .

How can I find out more?

If you want to embark on a path that will really make you stand out from the crowd, ask Dr Kristine Horner for more information: k.horner@sheffield.ac.uk. She can advise you on how easy it is to build Luxembourg Studies into your degree. Et ass flott!

Check out the website for more details and news in Luxembourg Studies:

And you can get directly involved with the one-of-a-kind student society – LuxSoc – already at Level 1.

“All the students in the classes come from different linguistic backgrounds: from Dutch, German, French and Russian. It's really interesting to see how we can work together and, speaking as a second year, the advice from fourth years is priceless.”
