Dutch
Why study Dutch?
Dutch is the language spoken by 24 million people in the Netherlands and Belgium and in the Caribbean. It may sound guttural at first, but you will soon discover that it is an accessible Germanic language. At the end of your first year you will speak and understand Dutch in the most common social settings; you can read longer texts and write informal texts yourself. (CEF A2)
Lively community
Dutch is much more than the 5th most requested language by UK employers. Studying Dutch seriously increases your changes on the job market, but above all, it is also seriously enriching and good fun. Watch the short videos to see what our current students say about studying Dutch at Sheffield.
Is it for me?
If you fancy learning an 'exotic' yet manageable language that you can put into practise across the North Sea, then Dutch is for you.
Anybody with some experience with a modern language is welcome: commitment and a desire to learn will determine your success. Not sure?
