Beginners' German

If you missed out on Europe’s most fascinating language at school we want you to have a second chance. German is an important and beautiful language spoken in the political and economic heart of the European Union.

Our Beginners course is intensively taught in small groups and involves both a language and a German history and culture programme.

Here, Mary Davidson (Dual Degree German and English) explains why she chose Beginners' German in her first year.

MDL 117 Resist! The Art of Protest in Berlin and Amsterdam

If you feel you want to add another German course to your programme we also offer Resist! The Art of Protest in Berlin and Amsterdam

Berlin and Amsterdam: two capitals at the forefront of protest and alternative lifestyles from the early 20th century right up to the present. Where did their radical traditions spring from? What do these protests say about how the cities and nations see themselves? How does creative resistance fuel gentrification and urban tourism? This module explores the culture of resistance and protest from the first women's march for the vote and posters and activism against war and fascism, to the creative resistance of the Amsterdam provo movement and more recently Pride Canal Parade and Black Lives Matter/Kick out Zwarte Piet.

This course is in taught and assessed in English and it is worth 20 credits.
