Dearly Departed,

What a heartwrench, leaving so many friends behind me in San Diego. Thermodynamics posits that no energy is ever lost. I speculate that psychology and physics are not so different. In this case, love has not disappeared, it has simply changed locations. The tragic beauty of saying goodbye may be what one feels as death approaches. The sense that today may be your last breath is a sense of awe, nostalgia, and love. How often must one say goodbye to love to love as equally at hello? Sometimes, love is NOT all, and there is something even grander to experience. Maybe the grass is always greener on the other side, but that's why even the cows waddle over there to graze. My greatest fear at this time: that the dream is loftier than the reality; that Macchu Picchu will forever be more majestic and mysterious in the pictures than in person, that the Piraiba won't crush me anymore than a Cedarville Reservoir 20lb channel catfish, that the Amazon will be just hot and buggy. At least there's no end to dreams.
